February 13, 2015

Food can be your second biggest expense next to home rent. By making changes in your eating lifestyle, you can save a lot of money on your groceries. Here's a list of things that you can do to make that happen.

#1 Make a plan for your 21 weekly meals based on the food items that you have at the moment. Preparing meals based on what you feel like eating will make you spend more than your budget.

#2 Make a detailed list of items that you'll need to buy and from which store Go to the store with your list, and do your best to stick with it. This will save you a lot of money and time.

#3 Clip coupons. They can be found with your newspaper inserts, on your food boxes, online, and in the mail. You can usually use a coupon even if the item is on sale.

#4 Keep a running list of condiments, paper, and hygiene products that you use regularly. Buy them when one sale.

#5 Use cash. Credit cards make you spend more. If you have little cash on hand, then adjust your spending to it.

#7 Invest in various sizes of plastic storage containers. This way, you will use less plastic wrap and Ziploc bags. This will also allow you to buy and make food in bulk and divide it up into smaller portions.

#8 Bake your own cookies and muffins. You and your kids can bring them to school, work, or eat them for snack.

#9 Have ingredients on hand to make simple take-out or comfort food at home. Store pita breads for quick pizzas, tortillas and salsa for fajitas or quesadillas, or burgers and buns in the freezer.
